Castle Guard Crossbow is a Crossbow from Charlemagne in The Knight’s Castle. It is a unique ranged weapon with Piercing V, Quick Charge III, and Unbreaking V, plus Blindness I applied to a target when you land a hit. The enchantment levels and the effect are the selling points here, not a vague promise that every shot will solve a fight.
“Once used to defend the castle, now turned against its protectors.” The wording fits the whole dungeon: equipment built to guard a fortress now comes off its corrupted final defender. As a unique drop, this crossbow sits outside the Royal class-loot reward that Charlemagne also carries.
Charlemagne offers Castle Guard Crossbow at a 2% chance on Normal, Hard, and Mythic. That means the same named weapon and listed effect are on the line across all three difficulties; choosing a harder run does not raise this particular listed chance.

How the Weapon Works
The clearest strength is the mix of Piercing V and Quick Charge III. Piercing gives this crossbow a distinct enchantment identity, while Quick Charge supports repeated crossbow use; neither line should be mistaken for a guaranteed special attack that works on every target.
Its additional effect matters whenever you actually hit a target: Blindness I applies to the target, not to you. The distinction is important because Dark Blood Splitter, another castle weapon, gives its wielder continuous Blindness I instead. Two weapons with the same status-effect name can make very different demands on the person holding them.
Unbreaking V rounds out the enchantments. It does not change the listed Blindness trigger, and it does not turn a missed shot into a status effect: the ability is tied to a hit.
Compared with Dark Longbow, Castle Guard Crossbow trades the bow’s Power X, Infinity I, and Wither I on-hit combination for crossbow enchantments and Blindness I on hit. Pick according to the exact effect you want to bring to a fight instead of treating every rare ranged weapon as interchangeable.
The entry says Blindness I when you hit, but does not attach a separate trigger percentage. Read that as a hit-triggered effect, not a bonus independent loot roll or a passive aura. If you are weighing this against a continuously active weapon effect, that timing is the first difference to notice.

Farming Charlemagne
Charlemagne changes phases at 80%, 50%, and 30% health. The crossbow is assigned to his fourth phase, so work toward the final stretch instead of assuming an early phase transition pays out.
His second phase brings healer summons, and the Azaroon Healer can channel healing into another elite once that target is at 80% health or lower. Deal with the healer or separate it from its target; otherwise progress toward the final drop phase can be undone while you are trying to push forward.
In the third phase Charlemagne gains fire and arrow attacks. In the last phase his attack list includes Arrow Rain, which creates an area of falling arrows over ten seconds after a short lead-in. Keep the fight controlled rather than trying to rush blindly through a phase you need to survive to get the item.
Normal uses level sync +5, Hard +0, and Mythic -5. Since the listed crossbow chance stays 2% on all three, the useful farming question is which difficulty you can complete reliably, not which one secretly improves this weapon’s odds.
Is It Worth It
Castle Guard Crossbow earns its place if you want a crossbow built around Piercing V, Quick Charge III, and a hit-triggered Blindness effect. Those three properties work toward a clear ranged role; there is no need to pretend the item also has a damage multiplier or a hidden proc chance.
The drawback is acquisition. A 2% final-boss unique drop asks for repeated completed runs, and the item is soulbound. There is no better-stat Normal, Hard, or Mythic version listed for this unique weapon, so farm the difficulty you can clear well.
