Throneward Arbalest is a crossbow from The Knight’s Castle, awarded through Charlemagne’s Royal class loot. Unlike Castle Guard Crossbow, this one belongs to Charlemagne’s class-selected Royal reward pool rather than his separate set of rare unique drops.
“Every bolt was counted by the royal quartermaster.” The quartermaster detail suits a weapon built around careful shots. It gives the item its character without pretending that the lore describes a special combat effect.

Class Loot
Throneward Arbalest is class loot. It has no fixed stats: its enchantments are rolled every time it drops, so no two copies are exactly alike, and harder difficulties allow higher enchantment levels. When a mob drops class loot, each player who wins the drop roll gets one item from that mob’s class loot pool, weighted toward their class.
Dropped as class loot by:
- Charlemagne (boss): 100% chance per player who dealt at least 10% of the mob’s health
Possible Enchantments
The levels below are the most each enchantment can roll. Each drop receives about half of the listed levels at random, so most copies land below these maximums. The chance shows how often an enchantment appears at all.
| Difficulty | Possible Enchantments |
|---|---|
| Normal | Power up to IV (always) Unbreaking up to III (75%) Quick Charge up to II (90%) Multishot up to I (10%) Piercing up to III (always) Mending up to I (10%) |
| Hard | Power up to V (always) Unbreaking up to IV (85%) Quick Charge up to III (90%) Multishot up to I (35%) Piercing up to IV (always) Mending up to I (15%) |
| Mythic | Power up to VII (always) Unbreaking up to V (85%) Quick Charge up to III (90%) Multishot up to I (40%) Piercing up to IV (always) Mending up to I (15%) |
Reading the Reward Correctly
The cleanest comparison is Castle Guard Crossbow. That unique Crossbow has Piercing V, Quick Charge III, Unbreaking V and Blindness I on hit at a 2% chance; Throneward Arbalest has class-loot enchantments determined by its reward roll instead of that fixed unique loadout. Royal Hunt is another ranged Royal option, but it is a Bow, not a Crossbow.
A Royal reward is different from Charlemagne’s named unique weapons. His unique items carry stated enchantments and effects with individual drop chances; this class-loot piece is selected from a larger Royal set, so judging it as though it had a fixed 2% weapon drop rate would mix up two separate reward systems.
What You Have to Beat
Getting to the Royal reward means finishing Charlemagne’s four-phase fight. His first phase uses Vacuum to pull players in and Web to trap them in a temporary cobweb for three seconds while he gains Speed III; hitting him down to 80% moves the fight into the second phase.
At 80% health, Charlemagne changes to Push attacks and calls in Azaroon Healers. These Illusioners look for injured elites within 20 blocks and heal an eligible target once each second, so leaving them alone can turn a long fight into a much longer one.
At 50% health, the third phase adds Fire and arrows alongside Push, with a Dome Arena script in play. At 30% health, the last phase exchanges the arrow attack for Arrow Rain and summons Hellstar; that’s also the phase carrying the Royal loot.
Arrow Rain begins with a cloud about ten blocks over Charlemagne, covers roughly a 30-by-30-block area and continues for ten seconds. Hellstar is permanently invisible and can launch explosive fireballs, so trying to finish the fight while ignoring everything around the boss is a fine way to make the final stretch harder than it needs to be.
Is It Worth It?
If you are building a Crossbow-focused loadout, Throneward Arbalest is a sensible Royal reward to watch for. Its value hinges on the enchantments you actually receive, so judge the finished weapon in your inventory rather than assuming it comes with Castle Guard Crossbow’s blinding effect.
For the best enchantment potential, Mythic is the run to target. The catch is that a class-selected reward is not a menu where you pick any Royal item you like, so count the item you actually receive rather than assuming every Charlemagne kill gives you this exact piece.
Is It Worth It
Its main enchantment is Power, which can reach IV on Normal, V on Hard and VII on Mythic when it drops from a boss. If you want this piece at its strongest, Mythic is the run to farm. Since every copy is rolled, two drops from the same difficulty can still differ, so check each one against what you are already using.
