Charon the Helmsman is a miniboss in The Pirate Ship. He is a dynamic-level Pillager with a Crossbow, a 4× health multiplier, and a 1.4× damage multiplier.
He is built to make distance awkward: player projectiles do nothing, knockback does nothing, and his own hits can pull you toward him. Hard and Mythic then add crowd control on top, because apparently steering the ship was not enough work.

Difficulty Scaling
This mob uses a dynamic level, so its level scales with The Pirate Ship. The dungeon lists Normal at level sync +5, Hard at 0, and Mythic at -5.
Hyper-Bow gets more frequent as difficulty rises: its local cooldown is 22.2 seconds on Normal, 15 on Hard, and 10 on Mythic. Hard adds Attack Freeze; Mythic keeps Freeze and adds Attack Blinding.
Powers and Abilities
- Hyper-Bow: When a player damages Charon, the power announces itself after 4 seconds and then summons five entities, one per second, starting 4.5 seconds after the trigger. The report does not identify those summoned entities. Its local cooldown is 22.2 seconds on Normal, 15 seconds on Hard, and 10 seconds on Mythic; the global cooldown is 3 seconds.
- Knockback Immunity: Charon cannot be knocked back. Active on all difficulties.
- Projectile Immunity: Player projectiles, including arrows and tridents, deal no damage to Charon. Active on all difficulties.
- Attack Vacuum: When Charon hits a player, he pulls that player toward himself. There is no cooldown, and the power is active on all difficulties.
- Attack Poison: His hits apply Poison I for 3 seconds on all difficulties.
- Movement Speed: Charon spawns with Speed II that lasts about 83 minutes, effectively the whole fight.
- Attack Freeze: On Hard and Mythic, a hit can give Slowness VI for 3 seconds, encase the player in temporary packed ice for 3 seconds, and show the freezing effect. It has a 15-second cooldown and a 3-second global cooldown.
- Attack Blinding: On Mythic, Charon’s hits apply Blindness I for 3 seconds.
What It Says
- Death: Charon the Helmsman’s been led astray by the players who killed him!
- Taunts: “Fools ahoy!” and “Worthy opponent at prow!”

How to Beat It
Charon ignores player projectiles and cannot be knocked back, so arrows, tridents, and attempts to shove him around are dead ends. His permanent-for-the-fight Speed II and no-cooldown Vacuum mean he can keep closing the gap after he lands a hit.
On Hard and Mythic, avoid giving him easy hits because Freeze can lock you down with Slowness VI and temporary packed ice. Hyper-Bow also summons five unidentified entities after its warning; the report does not say what those entities are, so there is no safe way to claim more than that.
