Captain Blackbeard is the boss of The Pirate Ship. He is a dynamic-level Pillager with a Crossbow, a custom disguise, a 7× health multiplier, and a 1.75× damage multiplier.
He also has the sort of power list that turns a ship deck into a bad place to stand still. Projectile immunity, homing arrows, forced movement, and the Whirlpool all pile on before Hard and Mythic add more trouble.

Difficulty Scaling
This mob uses a dynamic level, so its level scales with The Pirate Ship. The dungeon lists Normal at level sync +5, Hard at 0, and Mythic at -5.
Whirlpool exists on all three difficulties, but its local cooldown drops from 45 seconds on Normal to 35 on Hard and 30 on Mythic. Hard adds Attack Wither; Mythic keeps that and adds Gold Shotgun.
Powers and Abilities
- Whirlpool: Can trigger when Captain Blackbeard is damaged or damages a player. It warns nearby players, creates water around them, teleports players in a small area, then forces players downward across a much larger area before teleporting them back later. The local cooldown is 45 seconds on Normal, 35 seconds on Hard, and 30 seconds on Mythic; the global cooldown is 3.5 seconds.
- Attack Push: When Captain Blackbeard hits a player, he launches that player directly away from him. It has a 10-second global cooldown and is active on all difficulties.
- Attack Gravity: A hit from Captain Blackbeard gives Levitation I for 5 seconds. Active on all difficulties.
- Skeleton Tracking Arrow: Once he has a target, he fires a homing arrow at each player within 20 blocks every 3 seconds. Those arrows can keep homing for up to 60 seconds, and the power is active on all difficulties.
- Projectile Immunity: Player projectiles, including arrows and tridents, deal no damage to Captain Blackbeard. Active on all difficulties.
- Knockback Immunity: Captain Blackbeard cannot be knocked back. Active on all difficulties.
- Attack Wither: His hits apply Wither I for 3 seconds on Hard and Mythic.
- Gold Shotgun: On Mythic, being hit by a player can make Captain Blackbeard stop for 3 seconds while smoke shows his aim, then fire 200 gold nuggets in a tight cone. The power has a 20-second cooldown and a 7-second global cooldown.

How to Beat It
Do not waste player projectiles on Captain Blackbeard; the report says they deal no damage, and knockback will not move him either. His Whirlpool gives a warning, so react to that warning instead of standing where the water and forced movement start.
His homing arrows keep coming while he has a target, and direct hits can throw you away or lift you with Levitation. On Mythic, the Gold Shotgun telegraphs its line with smoke for 3 seconds, so moving sideways before the burst is the clean answer the report gives you.
